SPS-STORAGE TARGET

By default PSS sizes the target solution:

- Based on USED CAPACITY
- For a X:1 REPLACEMENT (All Sources Consolidated to a Single Target)

If the solution requires another method, use the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS section in the next page.

Other capacities can be Usable, Subscribed, or Custom.
Other replacement methods are 1:1 and X:X (Multiple to Multiple Replacements)

POWERFLEX STORAGE CLUSTER TARGET

POWERFLEX STORAGE TARGET SOLUTION

The PowerFlex target is configured using best practices, for node configurations.
If you wish to change any of the default parameters, explain your request using the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Section on the Next Page.

Only Live Optics Storage reports for Dell products are supported.
If a report is not available you can specify manual inputs below.

Complex configurations such As Custom Nodes, rack, HCI, and Two Layer are not supported by PSS.
Consult your local SPS specialist or vArchitect for details.

Medium granularity: 1MB volume units, Supports either thick or thin-provisioned volumes,
No data reduction, Higher performance than fine granularity.

Fine granularity: Space-efficient 4 KB volume units, Requires NVDIMM,
Always thin-provisioned and zero-padded, Supports in-line compression,
Efficient snapshots. (Think VDI workloads, compressible data, and large amounts of snapshots)

Oracle
and SQL Server license by the number of cores available.

In those situations, a reduced core or socket count may significantly reduce customer licensing costs.

For guidance on the selection of GPUs, please refer to the VxRail Technical Guide.
GPUs are only available for V-Series nodes. If more than 1 GPU per node is required, address this requirement in the quoting process. The use of GPUs requires vSphere Enterprise Plus licensing.

These will be added to any other workloads provided in the Live Optics report by using the reference VDI workloads defined in the VxRail Sizing Tool.

The default values below, are the reference workloads found in the VxRail Sizer for your convenience, please edit as required to match your customer requirements.
VDI WORKLOAD

A VxRail 2 Node Cluster is a specific configuration implemented in environments where a minimal configuration is a key requirement.

For additional info refer to the VxRail 2-node cluster planning guide:

By default, PSS sizes a 2-node cluster with mirror protection. If Nested RAID5 should be used please make a note in the special instructions section.

3 Node Configurations are primarily used for competitive situations to lower the point of entry cost.

Sizing a 3 node solution is done without resources for vSphere HA and is done as best effort only by PSS.

A 3 node cluster can only tolerate 1 failure, and there is no way to migrate all data from a node during maintenance.

PSS Output is Required to be Included in the RPQ Request.

For mSRP Sizing, PSS Requires Performance Data Defined Per Pool.

If the Values Below Are Not Provided, We Will use the Capacity Information From the Latest symapi_db.bin file if the source arrays is a VMAX or PowerMax Family.

CAPACITYDESCRIPTIONNOTES
Subscribed CapacityTotal capacity presented to hosts that includes Virtual Provisioning efficiencies. This is a conservative cost solution that matches the Effective Usable Capacity of the Target array to the amount of capacity presented to hosts from the Source array.
Usable CapacityThis capacity is the Total Raw Capacity minus Hot Spares and System Overhead, considering RAID Protection and including Data Reduction Efficiencies such as:

- Deduplication
- Compression
This is a moderate cost solution that provides a Like-for-Like Effective Capacity configuration.
Used CapacityCapacity reported as used in the source array or host scan.
This is the actual written capacity to disk.
Aggressive cost solution that optimizes cost.
This is the  PSS default value for XtremIO, and Unity target arrays. The PSS recommended maximum capacity utilization for the solution is 90% when this option is selected.
The PSS default value for VMAX and PowerMax includes a 30% capacity buffer.
Custom CapacityCustom capacity based on customer requirements. If you require another capacity or unique sizing, please explain in the Special Instructions section in the UPLOADS and SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS page.

The PUE is the ratio of total facility energy to IT equipment energy used in a data center.

This includes overhead mainly for cooling, but also for lighting, and power delivery components.

The lower the PUE, the more efficiently the data center delivers energy to its main purposes such as computing, storage, and networking.

DATA COLLECTION AS A SERVICE

For more information about the Data Collection service such as supported systems and requirements, visit the SharePoint site here.
DATA COLLECTION AS A SERVICE (DCaaS) | XtremIO Family
Use the Format APMxxxxxxxxxxxx, Where x's Are 11 Digits.
(0-9) (Sometimes 12 if Serial Number Has Only Two Initial Letters)
Other Accepted Values: BR, CKM, FC, FNM, and XIO.
Same Condition as XtremIO Serial Number 1
DATA COLLECTION AS A SERVICE (DCaaS) | Symmetrix/VMAX/PowerMax
Use the format HKxxxxxxxxx, where x's are 9 digits (0-9) Other values: CK, BR, CN, TN, SA.
Same Condition as Serial Number 1
DATA COLLECTION AS A SERVICE (DCaaS) | Clariion and VNX

ALL THESE CONDITIONS HAVE TO BE MET IN ORDER TO PROCEED WITH THE DATA COLLECTION CASE

1. SRS CONNECTIVITY

The requested array must be connected to DELL EMC's SRS service and have an active connection.
The customer's Policy Manager Dial In Condition in their internal SRS portion has to be configured as ALWAYS ALLOW.

2. DEFAULT CREDENTIALS

The VNX/Clariion login credentials must be the default for the Control Station or either Storage Processor.

3. ANALYZER STATUS

The VNX/Clariion Analyzer Enabler must be running in the array or was running previously and data has already been saved to the Storage Processor.

PSS will not start Data Logging in the array, this is a responsibility for the Account Systems Engineer and the customer.

If Analyzer status is Stopped, we will check for archived NAR files and collect the newest available 3 days, up to 20-day old files.

4. DATA RETRIEVAL

Only NAR files that are already saved in either Storage Processor (SPA or SPB) will be collected.
Valid Formats:  APM, CETV, CK, FCN, FNM
Same Condition as Serial Number 1
Note: A valid DCN is required to build the Quote. If you do not provide a valid DCN, PSS can only build the solution in OSC.
For DOMS Quotes, we will need additional information to complete request (like the below list).
Please mention the following in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS section next page:

  • Contract Code
  • Key Code
  • Company/Location # (CONUM)
  • DOMS Shipping Sequence (000 is the default Shipping Sequence, unless otherwise specified)
  • DOL %/Margin/Price details, and
  • Currency

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The DOMS Quotes are handled by the QSC (Quote Support Center).
PSS will work on the solution in OSC and handover your request to QSC.
You will receive an email from PSS with the OSC solution details.
The QSC team will convert the solution to DOMS quotes and send you are separate note with the quote details.
